The Foundation helps promote MeL and MeLCat state-wide to citizens so that people are aware of this tremendous, free library service.  Publicizing this service is a critical part of access for all. Promotional dollars are an area where private funding can help supplement government funding. The Foundation also helps expand MeL and MeLCat services and resources by providing additional funds. MeL is made possible primarily from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and State of Michigan funds.

MeL is the Michigan eLibrary. This digital library is the anywhere, anytime information gateway to full-text magazine and newspaper articles from highly academic materials appropriate for college use to popular reading materials including Consumer Reports. MeL provides online practice tests through LearningExpress Library. This allows high school students to practice for the SAT, ACT, the AP qualifying exams and more. It allows adults to practice for career certification exams as well as the US citizenship test. MeL provides help to small business owners as well as as car repair diagrams for car enthusiasts from AutoMate, access to MyHeritage for genealogists, and so much more.

Michigan residents have access to millions of items in addition to those available in their home libraries, courtesy of MeLCat. Users may log onto MeLCat to request materials for delivery to their local library. This means that Michigan residents have access to books and other library materials available from every corner of the state, including colleges and universities. This brings the resources of the big city to small towns and rural communities. In 2016 alone almost one million items were requested in MeLCat.
