Statement of Mission
The Library of Michigan Foundation raises funds to support special programs, services and collections of the Library of Michigan.
All public libraries rely on a combination of public and private funding to ensure excellence. That is why the Library of Michigan Foundation was established in 1985 to support and enrich the capabilities, resources and services of the Library of Michigan.
The Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization governed by an independent Board of Directors. Since its beginning, the Foundation has raised more than $6 million in private and corporate donations for programs to:
- boost adult literacy,
- advance youth and early childhood literacy,
- provide special literary services for the blind and physically impaired,
- enhance statewide services for libraries, and
- help provide continuing education for librarians, library staff and trustees.
The Foundation also raised private funds to significantly help construct the Martha W. Griffiths Michigan Rare Book Room housed in the Library of Michigan. The Foundation continues to raise funds to grow the Rare Book Collection.
